Ultra-Violent Trailer For James Gunn's CREATURE COMMANDOS Animated Series

DC Studios has released a new trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming animated series Creature Commandos! The trailer debuted at New York Comic-Con, and this show looks like it’s going to deliver a good time!

The trailer is filled with lots of new action-packed and bloody violence! Yeah, this show definitely isn’t for the kids. But, I’m excited to watch it!

James Gunn talked about the development of the series and said that as a fan of the Commandos comic characters as well as Frankenstein, and monsters in general, he started writing a script for Creature Commandos without a deal in place for the project. He added, “and then I happened to get hired as the head of DC.”

The series “tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails…they’re your last, worst option.”

David Harbour, who plays Eric Frankenstein in the series said during the panel: “I love the character of Frankenstein. It’s just sort of in my wheelhouse that if you have a large person who sort of has the inner workings of a tantrum-y 4-year-old, you’re going to want to get David Harbour.”

Gun went on to explain: “We don’t want anybody coming to Creature Commandos and going, oh, you have to watch The Suicide Squad to understand what happened to Creature Commandos. Oh, you have to watch Peacemaker.

“We want people to be able to come into this totally blind and they’re totally excited by it. So there’s nothing that isn’t explained in the show itself.”

Gunn, who wrote the series previously said: “The new series picks up directly after our Peacemaker season one finale, which leaves Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she’s no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions. Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.”

The filmmaker went on to say that the Creature Commandos roster is made up of “actual literal monsters, and I can’t wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life.”

The team in the series consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein's monster, and a gorgon. The voice cast includes David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Creature Commandos will premiere on Max in December 5th, 2024.
