James Gunn Says There's Been "Light and Fun" Discussions of a Marvel and DC Crossover
If anyone can make a Marvel and DC crossover film happen one day, it’s James Gunn. With Gunn’s strong relationship with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige and the fact that he’s now one of the leaders in charge at DC Studios, he could make something work someday.
During a recent interview with Empire, Gunn talked about the possibility of a crossover and he said that this is something that has actually been discussed, but if it happens, it will be several years from now after he establishes his own DC Universe, which has yet to launch. He said:
"I'm certain that's more likely now that I'm in charge [at DC]. Who knows? That's many years away, though ... I think we have to establish what we're doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven't discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun."
This crossover is something that Gunn has been teasing for years. A couple of years ago Gunn was asked about the possibility, and he said:
“I’ve casually talked to the powers-that-be at both Marvel & DC about it. I would love for it to happen. I don’t think it’s likely, but I don’t think it’s an impossibility either. THAT SAID, just constantly seeing crossovers & mashups is less enchanting to me than a strong story.”
But, with Gunn now leading the charge at DC, in his words, it’s “more likely now that” he’s in charge. If a crossover did eventually happen at some point, what characters from each franchise would you want to see in the same film together?
Do you think Gunn and Feige would actually allow big A-list characters to crossover or do you think they would be more like the C or D-grade characters?
