James Gunn Shares Photo of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor From SUPERMAN in Celebration of the Villain's 85th Anniversary

This year marks 85 years since Superman’s arch enemy Lex Luthor was introduced into the DC Comic universe. We are about to see a new take on the villain in James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman, in which Nicholas Hoult will portray Clark Kent’s nemesis.

The character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Lex Luthor originally appeared in Action Comics #23. He is physically an ordinary human and has no natural superpowers, but he is a genius with a high aptitude for business, politics, science, and technology.

Lex Luthor has been portrayed in film and TV many times over the years, but Gunn is great at reinventing the comic book characters he brings to the screen, and Hoult is a great actor who seems keen to put his spin on the big bad villain.

Check out the new photo in Gunn’s post below, and get ready to watch Lex Luthor take on Superman when the movie hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
