James Gunn Shares PEACEMAKER Season 2 Tease and Says It's "One of My Favorite Things Ever"

The wait for Peacemaker Season 2 is almost over, and James Gunn is has released a brief tease from the next chapter of the story. This is a chaotic, ultra-violent, and oddly heartfelt superhero series, and the footage was included in HBO’s latest sizzle reel.

It gave fans just 10 seconds of John Cena’s Christopher Smith diving headfirst through an upper-story window. But the real hype boost came from Gunn himself, who posted:

“Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever.”

That’s a pretty bold statement coming from the guy currently knee-deep in Superman. While Gunn isn’t directing every episode this time around, he did confirm last year that he’s written the entire season.

There’s still a bit of canon fog surrounding the show, though. Gunn previously clarified that Peacemaker Season 1 isn’t technically canon in the rebooted DC Universe, but it’s not being totally erased either:

“Many strands [from Peacemaker season 1] will remain consistent… insofar as Peacemaker’s story goes.”

Season 2 takes place after the events of Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, which stars David Corenswet as the new Kal-El. How exactly this version of Peacemaker fits into the evolving DCU remains to be seen, but with Gunn at the helm, you can bet it’ll be wild, hilarious, and probably a little bit emotionally devastating.

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to drop on August 21, and it can’t come soon enough.
