James Gunn Shuts Down Robin Rumor for THE BATMAN: PART II: “Stop Believing This Nonsense”
As The Batman: Part II gears up to start filming next year, James Gunn is doing some damage control in the rumor department. The DC Studios boss recently jumped on social media to shut down claims that Matt Reeves’ sequel will introduce Batman’s famous sidekick, Robin.
The chatter started after a report claimed that the script for the long-awaited sequel includes Robin, marking the character’s first major appearance in Reeves’ gritty Gotham. Some insiders even described this supposed addition as a “big swing” that would be “worth the wait.”
Gunn isn’t having it. “Guys please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about The Batman 2,” he wrote on Threads.
In an earlier post, he added, “Anything you’ve heard about that movie is made up or a guess. No one in the world knows anything about the concept for the story except four people.”
The rumor came from Jeff Sneider, a reporter with a solid track record for insider scoops, which makes it tricky for fans to separate fact from fiction. But Gunn knows how the internet works, leaks, speculation, and half-truths are just part of life in the world of superhero movies.
Last month, Gunn’s Superman kicked off a brand-new DCU under the “Gods and Monsters” banner, which is separate from Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga. That universe includes The Batman (2022) and last year’s HBO Max spinoff The Penguin.
While Gunn has defended the delays, The Batman Part II is now locked in for an October 1, 2027 release after a year-long pushback. Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin confirmed back in June that they’ve completed the script. Warner Bros. Discovery also reassured shareholders this week that production is slated to begin in the spring.
So, for now, fans will just have to wait and see what Reeves and his team have planned.
