James Wan Upcoming Film Projects Include MASS EXTINCTION, GMO, THE BURDEN, and HUNTING SEASON
James Wan has several film projects that he’s currently developing as a producer. We recently shared that one of the projects was an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu.” There are four other projects that were recently revealed, though they sound like promising movies.
These other films include Mass Extinction, GMO, Hunting Season, and The Burden. The news of these projects comes from Deadline in a report saying that these movies will also all have tie-in video games. So lets go through these projects:
In Mass Extinction, “humans have lost Earth to an alien virus, and a research and rescue team is sent down from the moon to deliver a cure to save the human race. On their way to delivering the cure, they must fight off a host of mutated animals and humans.”
GMO is a sci-fi film set in the future, it centers on “a newly invented drug that solves a global famine but whose side effects drastically accelerate the ageing process. After knowing that his estranged father has developed an antidote, ‘Scott’ decides to find him and save human beings from extinction, no matter what it takes.”
There’s not any information provided on The Burden, but he’s producing the mystery film alongside Sam Raimi, and I imagine that it will be some kind of horror thriller. As of right now, the details are shrouded in mystery.
As for The Hunting Season, this is a previously announced project that Wan is developing with producer Roy Lee and John Wick franchise writer Derek Kolstad. The story follows a law officer who is sent back to the past where, deemed an enemy of the state and is facing execution, he must acclimate in order to survive. Here’s the official description of the story that offers a little more insight:
The synopsis reads: “In this militaristic society of tomorrow, subversives are sent back to past ages where aristocrats hunt them for sport. Usually, the hunted are members of the lower classes. But when an aristocrat is condemned to be hunted in mid-twentieth century America, the entire fabric of society comes unraveled.”
Wan has got some exciting line up of projects coming!
