Jamie Campbell Bower Confirmed as Celeborn in THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 3
After spending the last few years terrifying audiences as Vecna in Stranger Things, Jamie Campbell Bower is heading to Middle-earth for a completely different kind of role. Instead of bringing nightmares to life, he'll be stepping into one of Tolkien's most important Elven characters.
It has now been officially confirmed that Bower will play Celeborn in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, finally putting months of fan speculation to rest.
The reveal comes courtesy of Empire Magazine, which confirmed that the actor will portray the legendary Elf lord, warrior, and, perhaps most importantly, Galadriel's long-lost husband.
Fans of Tolkien know Celeborn as a major figure in Elven history, but The Rings of Power has yet to introduce him despite Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, mentioning that they've been separated for centuries. It'll be interesting to see how the series finally reunites the couple and what kind of emotional weight that reunion carries.
Bower seems to have a very clear understanding of who this version of Celeborn is. Rather than focusing on the character's reputation as a warrior, he's leaning into the romance.
The actor explained: "This idea of longing and yearning is so pervasive in Tolkien’s relationship with Edith for the time that they were apart. I really feasted on that idea. Celeborn has had to find a way to survive whilst longing for something that he so dearly loved and so dearly missed as well."
It's quite the shift from playing Vecna. Instead of embodying pure evil, Bower describes Celeborn as something of a "lover-boy," making him the complete opposite of the Stranger Things villain.
Clark sounds equally thrilled with the casting and believes Bower looks exactly how she'd always pictured the Elven lord.
She said: "She’s kind of rude to him in the books. She’s the queen! But Jamie looks exactly like how I would imagine Celeborn. He’s such an Elf."
According to series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, Bower immediately stood out during the extensive casting process. After reviewing hundreds of auditions, they knew they'd found their Celeborn.
Payne shared: "He has this voice that is rich and hypnotic and sonorous that feels it has the wisdom of the ages buried inside of it. And then we did a chemistry read [with Clark], and instantly it just felt like he loved her so much. It felt so natural, and so organic, and so right."
Bower is certainly no stranger to passionate fanbases. His performance as Vecna and Henry Creel in Stranger Things Season 4 earned widespread praise and quickly made him one of the franchise's most talked-about additions. Now he'll have the chance to leave his mark on another iconic fantasy world.
Celeborn has always been an important piece of Galadriel's story, and his arrival has the potential to add a completely different emotional dynamic to The Rings of Power.
While Sauron continues to cast a shadow over Middle-earth, the series now has the opportunity to explore one of Tolkien's enduring romances alongside the epic battles and political conflict.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 is set to premiere on November 11, 2026, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Bower brings Celeborn to life. He feels like a great fit for the role.
