Jason Momoa Teams Up With Andy Samberg for Netflix Action Comedy PROTECTING JARED From Venom Director

Netflix is putting together a wild mix of action and comedy with Protecting Jared, and the ilm already had Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg leading the charge, and they are joined by Jai Courtney along with Aimee Carrero.

This thing could be a really fun ride that leans hard into chaotic, high-stakes comedy. On top of that, the film is being directed by Ruben Fleischer, the filmmaker behind Venom, which gives you a pretty solid idea of the tone they might be aiming for.

At the center of Protecting Jared is Momoa playing William Ikaika, a Hawaiian security guard who gets pulled into a dangerous situation when a tech billionaire named Jared becomes the target of a kidnapping plot. Samberg plays that billionaire, which already sounds like a perfect setup for some hilarious contrast between the two leads.

The script comes from Rob Klein and John Solomon, and the story sounds like it’ll lean into both action set pieces and character-driven comedy. If they land the tone right, this could be one of those Netflix movies people throw on expecting something light and end up having a blast with.

Details about Courtney and Carrero’s roles are still under wraps, but both bring solid experience in action, comedy, and genre storytelling.

Courtney has been on a strong streak lately. He popped up in Netflix’s War Machine, which turned into one of the platform’s bigger hits, and he also appeared in Dangerous Animals, which screened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

A lot of fans will still recognize him as Captain Boomerang from The Suicide Squad, and he’s clearly comfortable balancing intensity with a bit of humor.

Carrero has been keeping busy as well. She’s currently working on the Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining alongside Jennifer Garner and John Cena, and her TV background is pretty extensive.

She’s appeared in Young & Hungry, and voice fans know her from Elena of Avalor and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. She’s got that mix of comedic timing and charisma that should fit right into this project.

Production is currently underway in O’ahu, Hawaii, and filming is expected to continue through next month.

Between Momoa’s larger-than-life presence, Samberg’s comedic instincts, and a supporting cast that knows how to handle both action and humor, Protecting Jared is shaping up to be a pretty awesome addition to Netflix’s lineup.
