Jason Momoa Says His First SUPERGIRL Scene Proved He Was Born to Play Lobo

Jason Momoa sounds like a guy who just slipped into a role that fits a little too perfectly. With his first appearance as DC Comics’ intergalactic menace Lobo officially in the can, the actor is riding high and clearly having a blast letting loose in the DCU.

Momoa will debut as the foul-mouthed, cigar-chomping antihero in Supergirl, where he shares the screen with Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El. According to Momoa, it didn’t take long for things to click once the cameras rolled. Talking about the experience on Project Big Screen, he couldn’t hide his excitement.

"I'm super pumped. It felt just awesome [playing Lobo]. My first scene in [Supergirl] is like, 'I'm f*cking born to do this.' There's a lot of great actors that can do stuff, but once I go on that press tour, [you'll see] 'My first shot was this. Could you do this?'"

That confidence tracks. Momoa has been vocal for years about wanting to play Lobo, even going as far as texting DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn about it. Now that it’s happening, he’s clearly relishing the chance to unleash a character that feels custom-built for his chaotic energy.

Still, as fired up as he is about the role, Momoa isn’t pretending he knows what comes next. Lobo’s future in the DCU appears to be very much a wait-and-see situation. In a separate interview with Screen Rant, he kept expectations in check.

"I only know Lobo's in this one, and so we'll see what the future of all that holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out," Momoa said.

For now, Lobo’s impact will be felt in Supergirl, which hits theaters on June 26, 2026. The film lands nearly a year after Superman kicked off the DCU on the big screen and is said to lean into the idea that not every superhero needs to be flawless.

If Momoa’s first scene is as wild as he’s teasing, audiences are in for something loud, messy, and very on-brand for the Main Man. You can get a first look at him in action here.
