Jason Momoa Teases Lobo’s Look in DC's SUPERGIRL Movie and Says He's "Really Nervous"

Jason Momoa is returning to the world of DC, but this time, he’s trading in his trident for a space bike. After wrapping up his run as Aquaman, Momoa is making the leap to James Gunn’s DCU as Lobo, the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter.

His big debut will come in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and while details about his role have been kept under wraps, the actor has opened up about what fans can expect.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant while promoting A Minecraft Movie, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about bringing Lobo to life:

“Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big.

“I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool.”

For years, fans have speculated that Momoa was destined to play Lobo, and now that it’s official, his enthusiasm for the role is clear.

But how big of a role does he play in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? When asked if Lobo will stick around in the DCU, Momoa kept things vague but hopeful:

“I hope so. I hope so. I hope so. It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit.”

That confirms that while Supergirl may not be a full-on Lobo showcase, it will most likely be a launching pad for the character’s future in the DCU.

Craig Gillespie is directing the film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran producing. This will be the second film released in Gods and Monsters DC phase one, and the film is set to start shooting later this year.

Ana Nogueira is writing the screenplay for the film, and it was previously explained that the movie is “based on Tom King’s wonderful comic book series that came out just last year… This is a very different type of Super Girl.”

In this film “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time is an infant versus super girl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She's not exactly the Supergirl we are used to seeing.”

The movie stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (Into The Badlands), who will play Kara's biological mother and father Alura and Zor-El, Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) who will play Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) will play the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has begun shooting, and is expected to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
