Jason Voorhees Is Making a Big Comeback and Horror, Inc. Says We've Only Seen "The Tip of the Iceberg"

Friday the 13th fans have been waiting for Jason Voorhees to make a real comeback. Now, it feels like the masked slasher is suddenly everywhere. From video games and television to short films, collectibles, and merchandise, Jason has carved his way back into pop culture in a big way.

Interestingly, all of this activity isn't tied to a milestone anniversary. The Jason Universe actually celebrated its 45th anniversary last year. What horror fans are seeing now is the payoff of a long-term strategy from Horror, Inc. to make sure one of the genre's greatest icons stays relevant for decades to come.

That plan has already delivered the Cannes-shortlisted short film Sweet Revenge, the upcoming Crystal Lake Peacock series starring Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason's arrival in Dead by Daylight through Behaviour Interactive's crossover, and an expanding lineup of licensing partnerships and merchandise unveiled at this year's Licensing Expo.

According to Horror, Inc. executive vice president Robbie Barsamian, everything fans are seeing has been carefully mapped out.

“Starting with our 45th anniversary celebration in 2025, our approach to bringing new film, TV, gaming, immersive experiences and merchandise to life has been intentionally planned.

“We’re giving long-time fans what they’ve been asking for while at the same time inviting new fans into the franchise in a variety of ways. We want to make sure Jason remains the icon that he is for the next 45 years.”

That strategy extends well beyond movies. Gaming has become one of the biggest ways for horror icons to reach new audiences, and Barsamian says Jason's appearance in Dead by Daylight is only successful if the character still feels unmistakably like Jason, regardless of the world he's dropped into.

“When Jason steps into other gaming worlds, we want to adapt him to his new surroundings while keeping his core DNA intact, so he continues to feel like the relentless force he is wherever he goes. We want to make sure that in any game, his physical presence is imposing, he moves only like Jason would, and he leaves players’ hearts racing.”

It's a smart philosophy. Fans don't simply want Jason wearing a hockey mask. They want the unstoppable force that's been terrifying audiences since the Friday the 13th franchise first exploded onto the horror scene.

The upcoming projects also show that Horror, Inc. isn't interested in repeating itself. While Sweet Revenge and Camp Crystal Lake both exist within the Jason Universe, they're taking completely different storytelling approaches.

Barsamian explained: “They are two completely different approaches to storytelling, and that’s exactly the point. “Sweet Revenge” was a 13-minute thrill ride that gave audiences a taste of Jason in 2025.

“On the flip side, the Crystal Lake TV series will take fans back in time to tell the story of how Pamela Voorhees came to be the mother of all slashers.”

That balance between honoring the past and creating something fresh also carries over into the franchise's expanding merchandise and licensing efforts.

Rather than relying solely on nostalgia, Horror, Inc. wants to reinterpret Jason in ways that still feel authentic to longtime fans while introducing him to a new generation.

As Barsamian explained: “We want to give fans fresh takes on what they love most about Jason and continue to expand his world in authentic ways that resonate with horror fans today.

“Dead by Daylight gave a nod to fan-favorite legacy versions of Jason when they designed three additional skins (Backwoods Terror, Depths of Despair, and Death Forsaken) but completely reimagined them through the lens of their nightmare horror game world.

“Sweet Revenge surprised fans with some of the bloodiest Jason kills we’ve ever seen and an unexpected final girl twist while dropping legacy references throughout.”

Of course, the biggest question for fans is what's next. If Barsamian is to be believed, everything we've seen so far is only the beginning of a much bigger roadmap.

“We’ve been busy behind the scenes laying the foundation that everyone is finally starting to see come to life, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. We have a thrilling lineup of new projects that we can’t wait to share more details on soon.”

That's an exciting promise for horror fans who've spent years waiting for Jason Voorhees to reclaim his place among horror's biggest names.

Between Crystal Lake, Dead by Daylight, Sweet Revenge, and whatever Horror, Inc. has waiting in the wings, it certainly feels like the Jason Universe is entering a new era.
