Jay Olivia Says Ben Affleck's THE BATMAN "Would Have Made Fans Proud"

There seems to be a good amount of talk regarding Ben Affleck’s unproduced Batman movie lately. Joe Manganiello recently talked about it and shared some details and Zack Snyder also said he would love to see Affleck get to make his Batman vs. Deathstroke movie one day.

Now, Justice League storyboard artist, Jay Olivia, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Affleck’s The Batman saying that it “would have made fans proud.” Olivia shared the following in response to a tweet from Scott Mendelson claiming Affleck left the project due to a lack of passion:

“I was working with [Ben Affleck] personally just prior to him leaving the project and not once did he seem like he didn’t want to be Batman. His version of Batman in his solo movie would have made fans proud.”

Manganiello, who plays DC assassin Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke in the DCEU, compared Affleck’s The Batman to Fincher’s 1997 film The Game. The original pitch for the film saw Deathstroke systematically destroying Bruce Wayne’s life, his public status as Gotham City’s leading citizen, and his private existence as Batman. Manganiello also said:

“It was a really dark story in which Deathstroke was like a shark or a horror movie villain that was dismantling Bruce’s life from the inside out. It was this systemic thing: He killed everyone close to Bruce and destroyed his life to try and make him suffer because he felt that Bruce was responsible for something that happened to him.”

As excited as I am for Matt ReevesThe Batman, I would have also liked to see Affleck’s story brought to life. I can’t help but think it would have been pretty cool. While I may not have cared for Batman v Superman or Justice League, I did like Affleck in the role of Batman.
