Jennifer Grey Officially Returning for DIRTY DANCING Sequel, Lionsgate Confirms
Actress Jennifer Grey, best known for her role of Baby Houseman in the iconic romantic dance drama Dirty Dancing, has been confirmed to be returning to the part after over 30 years. Last month, we reported that Grey had signed on to produce and star in a dance film at Lionsgate that most outlets were suspecting was a sequel to the original, but the studio has now confirmed what everyone was thinking.
Deadline reports that Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed the news, calling it “one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood.” The film is being directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) and Gillian Bohrer from a screenplay by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart, The Curse of La Llorona).
Feltheimer said of the sequel:
“It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company’s history.”
I certainly hope it does justice to the fans of the original. I love that movie so much. It makes me sad to think of it happening without Patrick Swayze, but I hope it’s still really good.
