Jensen Ackles Teases a Different Side of Soldier Boy in THE BOYS Spinoff VOUGHT RISING

Jensen Ackles is ready to peel back the layers on Soldier Boy, and it sounds like fans are in for something completely different in the upcoming The Boys spinoff, Vought Rising.

Speaking at Creation Entertainment’s The Road So Far… The Road Ahead convention in Novi, Michigan, Ackles shared an intriguing tease about the prequel series and what it means for his fan-favorite character.

Ackles revealed that Vought Rising will take us far back before the gruff, cynical Soldier Boy we met in Season 3 of The Boys. This version of the character hasn’t yet had decades to hide behind arrogance and bravado. Instead, Ackles says the new series will show a more open and vulnerable side of the supe.

“It’s certainly going to be looking at the world through a different lens because this is the genesis of it all. Soldier Boy specifically hasn’t had years or decades of being that guy.

“He’s still trying to figure out what that is and who he’s gonna be. So it’s a kind of coming-of-age story for him from where he was to where he got. It’s going to be a little bit of a different flavor in how he interacts and how he is.”

The actor went on to explain that the spinoff aims to strip away the persona Soldier Boy built over time:

“He hasn’t had decades to mask [his feelings] and build up a gruff exterior, and the show will peel a lot of that away so you see a more vulnerable and open version of the character… It’s about what drove him to be where he is and the insecurity that he has.”

Vought Rising is set in the 1950s, long before the events of the main series. The story will explore the early days of Vought International, featuring both Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront. The show centers on a murder mystery, which feels very in line with the dark, twisted world of The Boys, but with an old-school spin.

Prime Video has turned The Boys into one of its most successful franchises since debuting the main series in 2019. While the original show is set to wrap up with its fifth and final season, the universe isn’t slowing down.

Fans have already seen the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the college-based spinoff Gen V, which has a second season on the way. There’s also The Boys: Mexico in development.

Soldier Boy was introduced in The Boys Season 3 as Homelander’s biological father, bringing chaos, brutality, and some unforgettable one-liners with him. But Vought Rising promises something fresh, a character study set against the backdrop of a supe-dominated 1950s.
