Jeremy Allen White Regrets How He Handled His Marvel Meeting - “That Was Out of Line”

Jeremy Allen White has been on a roll lately. Between his acclaimed work on The Bear, his powerful performance in The Iron Claw alongside Zac Efron, and his upcoming lead role in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, the actor has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents.

He’s even joining the galaxy far, far away with a starring role in The Mandalorian and Grogu, Disney’s first Star Wars movie in six years.

But despite that impressive career trajectory, White recently reflected on one opportunity he didn’t exactly handle well… a meeting with Marvel Studios that went south.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with host Josh Horowitz, White opened up about that meeting and admitted he could’ve approached it differently.

“That was out of line. That was, again, me sort of not being entirely invited to the party, and being, like, ‘I don’t even wanna go anyway.’ But yes, I had a meeting that I probably could have handled differently, for sure. And I think I was just...

“First of all, it's not a bag on the genre, as much as it is, like, I don't know what I can give to it, really, or how I fit into it. And also, I think there was a period where being in one of those films guaranteed you [could] get any movie made.

“And if you find a script on the street and you take that around to people, and you love it, you can get it made, and I just don't know if that's how it's working anymore."

White’s honesty about his creative doubts and how he approached the genre gives fans a candid look into the actor’s mindset. He’s not dismissing superhero films, just unsure where he fits into that kind of storytelling.

This isn’t the first time he’s spoken about the encounter. Back in 2023, during a previous interview, White shared that he once “had a meeting for a kind of Marvel-y movie” and admitted things didn’t go smoothly.

“I had a meeting for a kind of Marvel-y movie, and I had an attitude. I think I played it all wrong. Tell me about why should I do your movie. They were, like, '[frick] you,' and I was like, 'Right on.'”

At the time, White didn’t confirm which studio the meeting was with, but Horowitz later clarified that it had been Marvel.

For now, you can catch White in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which is currently playing in theaters, while The Bear continues to solidify his place as one of the most compelling actors working today.
