Jeremy Allen White Reportedly Meets With Marvel for X-MEN Role, Could it Be For Wolverine?
Jeremy Allen White, best known for his roles in The Bear and Shameless, has reportedly met with Marvel about joining the MCU’s upcoming X-Men movie. Could he be the guy who finally takes over the claws from Hugh Jackman?
According to insider Jeff Sneider, White is being considered for a role in Marvel's mutant franchise, with the possibility of making a brief cameo before taking on a larger part in future projects. There's no confirmation that he's actually playing Wolverine, but that's the character at the center of the speculation.
White would certainly be an interesting pick. He's proven himself as a fantastic dramatic actor, particularly with his performance as Carmy Berzatto in The Bear.
He also spent years playing Lip Gallagher in Shameless, showing he can handle complicated, short-tempered characters. Those qualities could translate pretty well to Logan, a guy who spends much of his time angry at the world.
There's also the physical side of the character. At 5-foot-7, White is considerably shorter than Jackman and actually closer to Wolverine's comic book appearance.
In Marvel Comics, Logan stands just 5-foot-3 and weighs around 200 pounds, thanks in part to his adamantium skeleton. White has the compact build and intensity that could make for a more comic-accurate Wolverine.
Of course, following Jackman would be no easy task. He's spent more than two decades making Wolverine one of Marvel's most recognizable characters, and his return in Deadpool & Wolverine reminded everyone just how much fun he is in the role. Whoever eventually replaces him will have some enormous shoes to fill, even if Logan himself isn't particularly tall.
For White, joining the MCU could also be a major career opportunity. Despite his success on television, his recent theatrical projects haven't exactly been box office hits. Those films include the Bruce Springsteen biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and The Social Reckoning.
The studio hasn't confirmed White's reported meeting, announced any casting decisions, or explained how Logan will factor into its upcoming X-Men movie. It's also unclear whether Marvel intends to introduce a completely new Wolverine right away or keep Jackman around a little longer.
For now, White remains an intriguing possibility rather than a confirmed candidate for the claws. Personally, I could see him pulling it off. He's got the acting ability, the attitude, and the physical presence to give Wolverine a different kind of energy without trying to imitate Jackman.
What do you think? Would Jeremy Allen White make a badass Wolverine, or is there someone else you'd rather see take over the role in the MCU?
