Jeremy Renner Shares a Promising HAWKEYE Season 2 Update: “That Was Always the Idea to Continue That Narrative”
It looks like there’s still hope for another round of Hawkeye on Disney+, and Jeremy Renner is definitely ready to jump into action again. The actor recently shared an update that has fans crossing their fingers for more Christmas-time heroics in New York City.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Renner opened up about what a second season could look like, saying, "It's really not my decision to make. For a second season, that was always the idea to continue that narrative, even in the Christmas framework of it all, too, because they love that world in New York."
The first season of Hawkeye ended on a festive note, with Clint Barton saving the city and making it home just in time for Christmas dinner.
Along the way, he teamed up with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who’s poised to take on the Hawkeye mantle, just like in the comics. Meanwhile, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin escaped, setting up his next moves in Echo and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again seasons.
Renner also reflected on how much he loved the show’s Christmas setting, adding, "There’s really no more beautiful place than New York until Christmas. After Christmas is kind of bleak."
Earlier this year, Renner revealed that Marvel had approached him about returning for a second season, though the negotiations hit a funny snag.
According to the actor, the studio offered him “half” of his season one salary. He joked, "I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I'm only half the Jeremy because I got ran over?"
Just a couple of months later, he said he was confident that Hawkeye would be back in action, saying he was "sure we’ll end up doing season 2 [of Hawkeye]" and that he’s "happy to do it."
For now, nothing is official, and Marvel has kept quiet about Barton’s next MCU appearance, whether it’s Hawkeye season 2 or a surprise cameo in Avengers: Doomsday. But considering Hawkeye’s 92% Rotten Tomatoes score and the fan love for its grounded, holiday-flavored hero story, it wouldn’t be surprising if Renner and Steinfeld eventually reunite for another round of archery-fueled action.
