Jerry Bruckheimer Says Female-Led PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Movie Starring Margot Robbie Could Still Happen
Two weeks ago, we reported that the Margot Robbie-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie that had been in development at Disney since 2020 was being scrapped. But as it turns out, it may have some hope of seeing the light of day after all, just not for a while.
In a recent interview with Collider, Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all five previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies, says there’s still a chance to resurrect the script of the cancelled female-led take on the franchise.
Bruckheimer said of the project:
“I think that that script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for Pirates and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.”
Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) was expected to write the script. Bruckheimer was also attached to produce, and the spin-off would most likely connect to the larger franchise.
Very little is known about this other project the producer is talking about, except that Ted Elliott, who wrote the scripts for the first four Pirates films, is supposedly attached to writing the sixth movie script together with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. We don’t know if the film will bring back characters from the original movies, or start from scratch, but it’s good to hear that we may still see the Margot Robbie movie after all.
