Jesse Eisenberg "Hopes" to Be in JUSTICE LEAGUE, Jeremy Irons Agrees with Bad Reviews of BATMAN V SUPERMAN
It's a slow news day — I guess Hollywood is still sleeping off a hangover from Memorial Day festivities — so here are two quick pieces of info related to the movies of the DC Extended Universe. First up, Jesse Eisenberg, who played Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, apparently still doesn't know if he's going to reprise that role in Justice League or not, despite the fact that Zack Snyder and company have been filming for weeks already in London.
“They just started filming Justice League so I’m kind of waiting for my crack at it… I think so, and I love it and I love everybody, it’s a really talented group of people obviously, so I certainly hope to be in it.”
I thought it was a little implausible that he didn't know if he was going to be in the film a couple of weeks before filming began, but it seems downright impossible that he wouldn't be aware if he's a part of this film by now. He's probably just trying not to tip his hand about what may amount to nothing more than a cameo appearance (that's just speculation).
Meanwhile, Eisenberg's BvS co-star Jeremy Irons (who played Batman's butler Alfred in the film) had some interesting things to say about that movie over the long weekend. When The Daily Mail pointed out that the film received a spanking from critics, Irons responded:
"Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed…It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear. I’m tied into The Batman at the minute, which is nice because it’s a bit of income…Not that I need a bit of income, but it’s nice to keep ticking over."
This isn't quite Michael Caine-levels of dismissiveness of a movie he's been in, but it's still refreshing to hear him speak candidly about a project that's considered a massive disappointment by its lead actors, critics, many audiences, and even its own studio.
Justice League Part 1 arrives in theaters on November 17, 2017.
