Jessica Henwick Explains Why Colleen Wing Won’t Return for DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 3

Fans have watched Marvel slowly pull more of the Netflix era into the MCU, and it's been awesome seeing familiar characters finally getting another shot.

Daredevil: Born Again has embraced that history, and with Danny Rand officially making his return in Season 3, it felt like the perfect opportunity for Colleen Wing to show up as well.

As it turns out, that almost happened. Jessica Henwick has confirmed that Marvel Studios did reach out about bringing Colleen Wing back, but after talking it through, everyone landed on the same conclusion. If she was going to return, it had to actually matter.

Speaking with Inverse, Henwick revealed that conversations did happen about appearing in the upcoming season.

“We did have discussions about whether I should go back this season. But for me, her story ended with her going off into the sunset. She has the Iron Fist. She’s got Misty by her side. Daughters of the Dragon is happening. She ended on a really great note.”

By the end of Iron Fist, Colleen had become one of the franchise's strongest characters. In fact, many fans felt she evolved into a far more compelling hero than Danny Rand himself.

Her journey was earned, her action scenes were fantastic, and watching her inherit the power of the Iron Fist felt like the natural next step for the character. If anyone deserved another chapter, it was Colleen.

That's exactly why Henwick didn't want to undo the ending that gave the character such a satisfying future. She explained:

“I’m just not interested in bringing her back unless it’s worth sort of unpicking that happiness, because obviously she can’t be happy on a TV series. If she’s back, something’s gone wrong. I would absolutely love to come back, but it would just really have to be the right story,” she added.

That approach makes a lot of sense. It's refreshing to hear an actor protect a character's arc instead of returning simply because the opportunity is there. If Colleen comes back, there should be a genuine reason that pushes her story forward instead of using her as a quick cameo for fans to point at.

Apparently, Marvel Studios agreed. Henwick said the creative team had no interest in bringing Colleen back just to have her standing around in the background.

“They were like, ‘Yeah, we don’t want to bring you back, and then you just stood in the back of the shot.’ So hopefully soon, but I don’t really know.”

That's probably the best outcome if they couldn't build a meaningful story around her. A sidelined appearance would've felt like a missed opportunity for a character who became one of the highlights of the Netflix Marvel universe.

Marvel has officially confirmed Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, with production already underway after the announcement in September 2025. The new season is currently expected to premiere in March 2027, and it will feature the return of Finn Jones as Danny Rand.

Even though Iron Fist getting another chance, it's a little disappointing that Colleen Wing won't be joining him. Many viewers walked away from Iron Fist feeling that Colleen had become the true heart of that series, and her evolution into the Iron Fist opened the door for stories that arguably felt even more exciting than Danny's.

Hopefully this isn't the end of the conversation. Henwick clearly hasn't closed the door on returning, and Marvel seems to understand that Colleen deserves more than a glorified cameo.

If she eventually makes her way back into the MCU, here's hoping it's for a story worthy of one of Marvel's coolest street-level heroes.
