Jessica Lange Returns to AMERICAN HORROR STORY in Season 13 Set Photos as Filming Kicks Off

Ryan Murphy is pulling fans back into the twisted world of American Horror Story in a big way. Production on Season 13 is officially underway, and the first set photos just dropped with a familiar and iconic presence… Jessica Lange is back.

Ryan Murphy Productions shared three behind-the-scenes shots, each showing Lange standing at an old window in a blue dress and heels. You only see her from behind, but honestly, that’s all it took to send longtime fans into full hype mode.

Lange hasn’t appeared on American Horror Story in eight years, and her return feels like a full-circle moment for the series. She was there at the very beginning, playing Constance Langdon in Season 1, and quickly became one of the defining faces of the franchise.

From there, she delivered great performances as Sister Jude Martin in Season 2, Fiona Goode in Season 3, and Elsa Mars in Season 4. She later popped back in during Season 8 to reprise Constance, but after that, it seemed like she had closed the door for good.

Not long ago, Lange made it pretty clear she wasn’t interested in returning. In a 2025 interview, she said, “Oh Christ, no. I mean, I haven’t done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I’m not doing it.”

Well… things change. Now she’s back in the mix for Season 13, though one big mystery remains. Is she returning as Constance Langdon again, or stepping into an entirely new role? Murphy isn’t giving anything away yet.

Season 13 is shaping up to be a reunion of AHS heavy hitters, with Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and Leslie Grossman all set to appear.

On top of that, Ariana Grande is joining the chaos, reuniting with Murphy and Brad Falchuk after previously working together on Scream Queens.

For fans who’ve stuck with the show, this lineup feels like a celebration of what made American Horror Story such a hit in the first place.

I was completely hooked when American Horror Story first premiered. Over time, it lost that edge for me and the stories didn’t hit the same way. Still, the fanbase has never really gone anywhere, and the show continuing into a 13th season proves it still has a strong grip on its audience.

And now, with Jessica Lange stepping back into this world, I might actually be tempted to check back in.
