Jim Caviezel Offers Update on Mel Gibson's PASSION OF THE CHRIST: RESURRECTION and Says "It Might Be Two Films"
There have been reports that director Mel Gibson was developing his sequel to Passion of the Christ, which is titled Passion of the Christ: Ressurection. Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in the first film, recently offered an update on the project and he believes that the story is so big that it will be split into two films.
During a recent appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Caviezel was asked about the project and he said:
“I asked him [Gibson] would you be ready to go in January, he said ‘yeah, maybe.’ I said ‘how about the end of fall,’ he said ‘yeah, maybe.’ So who knows […] it might be two films, maybe three, but I think it’s two.”
There’s also a report from World of Reel that says production will begin this fall. When the movie does move forward, Caviezel will reprise his role as Jesus Christ. The movie will tell the story of Christ's resurrection and in a previous interview with the actor, he said that the film will "shock audiences" and be the "biggest film in history."
"There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience. It’s great. Stay tuned. I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it. But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good."
The film is being written by Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace, who previously said: "I always wanted to tell this story. The Passion is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."
The Passion of the Christ was released in 2004 and it tells the story of the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and his crucifixion. The film made $612 million on a budget of $30 million.
Cavielzel can currently be seeing the recently released anti-child trafficking thriller Sound of Freedom, which is seeing a big box office take.
