Joe and Anthony Russo Confirmed To Direct Marvel's AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and AVENGERS: SECRET WARS

Marvel Studios has officially announced that Joe and Anthony Russo will return to direct the next two Avengers movies that have been in development! Those films include Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. They made the big announcement at Comic-Con and the crowd in Hall H went wild!

Yes, that first title means that the MCU is going to include Doctor Doom and it was also released that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing the villain, which is insane!

Joe Russo walked on stage, saying, “We missed you guys,” and Anthony Russo said he thought Endgame was really their last movie, saying: “That four movie run was incredible, and it left us with our emotions spent.”

He then added: “We came to see a road forward with you all.”

There were rumors that the Russo Bros. were in talks and those reports were true! Several directors were said to be in talks to helm these films over the past several months including Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead (Moon Knight). Destin Daniel Cretton was the original director of The Kang Dynasty.

It's also no secret that the Russos are big fans of the Secret Wars storylines. Joe Russo once said: "We just always answer truthfully when we're asked, 'Would you work with them [Marvel Studios]?' 'Of course we would, we adore them.'

“'What would you like to do?' 'Secret Wars, it was our favorite series growing up.' And then I think it always gets turned into a bigger story. But to be clear: there is no story... We haven't had conversations with those guys about anything that they're up to because we've been intensely busy with our own schedule."

When previously talking about Secret Wars, Joe Russo said: "You know, I read that when I was 10 or 11, and it was the scale of getting all of the heroes together. It was one of the first major books to do that – that was really event-storytelling to me at its finest.

“And what happens when you put all of those personalities together. I also like the idea of villains having to team up with heroes. Anth and I like complicated relationships between heroes and villains, we like villains who believe they're heroes in their own stories, so it's all sort of built into this notion of Secret Wars.

“To execute something on the scale of Infinity War was directly related to the dream of Secret Wars, which is even larger in scale."

Now, they are actually going to bring this epic Marvel story to life, and I can’t wait to see it!
