Sam Raimi Hopes to Direct AVENGERS: SECRET WARS, but Marvel Hasn't Asked Him Yet
It’s been rumored that Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi has been in the running to direct Marvel’s next two Avengers moviesThe Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
The fan-favorite filmmaker has now addressed those rumors, and these are films that he would love to direct… if Marvel asks him to.
Raimi was at WonderCon this past weekend promoting his new film Boy Kills World, and during an interview with Screen Geek, he was asked about directing Marvel’s big Multiverse Saga finale, and he hopes that they give him the opportunity.
Raimi replied: "I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do."
I love that this is a directing gig that Raimi would like to take on. He’s a great director who makes fun movies, and it would be awesome to see him back in the saddle at Marvel to direct the next two Avengers movies.
The filmmaker was also recently asked about directing Spider-Man 4, to which he replied: “Well, I haven’t heard about that yet. I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!'”
He added: "I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies," he continued. "I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it."
We’ll just have to wait and see if Marvel Studios asked Raimi to come back. I hope they do! If not, I would sure love to see Raimi directing more horror movies!
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars to follow on May 7, 2027.
