John Boyega Reportedly Has Met With Lucasfilm About Finn’s Return in STAR WARS

There might be unfinished business for Finn in the Star Wars galaxy. A new report suggests that John Boyega could be gearing up for a return, following a recent meeting with Lucasfilm that has fans wondering what’s next for the former Stormtrooper turned Resistance hero.

After Boyega casually hinted that he had crossed paths with new Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni, insider Daniel Richtman now claims that the actor has officially sat down with the studio to talk about stepping back into the role.

There’s no confirmation on which project this could tie into, but it’s enough to spark real excitement that Finn’s story might not be over just yet.

With Kathleen Kennedy no longer steering Lucasfilm, Filoni now has the keys to shape the future of Star Wars. That includes deciding which previously announced films actually move forward, something that had become a bit of a revolving door during Kennedy’s tenure.

One of those lingering projects is the long-discussed film centered on Daisy Ridley’s Rey, first revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Despite multiple writer changes, it hasn’t made much visible progress.

Still, if that movie does happen, Finn feels like a natural fit. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teased his connection to the Force, hinting at a bigger path that never fully materialized. A post-Episode IX story, especially one focused on a New Jedi Order, seems like the perfect place to finally pay that off.

Boyega’s rise to fame kicked off with Attack the Block, and it didn’t take long before he landed a leading role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He debuted as a First Order Stormtrooper who defects and begins a journey that many assumed would lead to Jedi training.

That trajectory didn’t quite pan out the way fans or Boyega hoped. The Last Jedi sidelined Finn from Rey’s story and moved away from the Force-sensitive angle. Then The Rise of Skywalker circled back to it, but with so much packed into the film, it never had room to fully explore the idea.

Boyega has been open about his frustrations with how things played out, especially when it came to representation in the franchise. Speaking last spring, he didn’t hold back:

"Lemme tell ya, Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space. It's a franchise that's so white that a Black person existing in [it] was something."

"You can always tell it's something when some Star Wars fans try to say, 'Well, we had Lando Calrissian and had Samuel L. Jackson!'" he continued. "It's like telling me how many cookie chips are in the cookie dough. It's like, they just scattered that in there, bro!"

"They're okay with us playing the best friend, but once we touch their heroes, once we lead, once we trailblaze, it's like, 'Oh my God, it's just a bit too much! They're pandering!'"

Even with those criticisms, it sounds like Boyega’s relationship with the franchise has evolved. If this reported meeting leads anywhere, it could finally give Finn the arc many felt was missing.

Nothing is official yet, but the idea of Filoni taking another shot at developing Finn’s story is intriguing. If Star Wars is heading into a new era, bringing back a character with untapped potential might be a smart place to start.
