John Carpenter on Directing a DEAD SPACE Movie - "Until Someone Asks Me, I Wouldn't Do It"

John Carpenter has said in the past that he would be interested in making a feature film adaptation of the hit sci-fi horror video game franchise Dead Space. When Carpenter was previously asked if he was interested in directing a film adaptation of a video game, he mentioned Dead Space and said, “That would make a real great movie. I could do that.”

Well, according to Carpenter, there may be a movie in development, but it’s not with him. In a recent interview with Variety, Carpenter was asked about the project and he said that he’s not going to do it:

“I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a Dead Space film. That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it.”

He then touched on the project’s existence and said that he thought that “they” have another director attached to the project. He went on to say, “And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it.”

So, at this point, no one has asked him to direct a Dead Space movie, but if someone actually did reach out to him, he might actually do it. It’s just a matter of a studio coming to him and asking. As for if he would return to direct any kind of movie, Carpenter said if the project was “honestly budgeted” and the producers heading the project allow time for him to enjoy basketball season and the playoffs, he’d be open to it.

Would you like to see Carpenter direct another movie someday? Would you like to see him take on Dead Space?
