John Carpenter Still Wants to Direct a DEAD SPACE Movie and That Would Be Awesome

As you may or may not know, director John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) enjoys playing video games, and he previously said, “To play video games you have to sit in a chair and not really get up and do anything. I love that. That’s my job now, to sit around and do nothing!”

Carpenter would like to direct another film if he could pull himself away from video games and it’s the right project. Well, the filmmaker does have a project in mind that he’d like to make, and that’s a film adaptation of the hit horror game Dead Space.

In an interview with the AV Club, Carpenter briefly discussed his work scoring the upcoming Halloween Ends, and he also, once again, dives into his passion for playing video games. During the conversation, Carpenter was asked if was interested in directing a film adaptation of a video game, to which he responded with Dead Space. “That would make a real great movie. I could do that.”

When asked about what his favorite game in the franchise was, Carpenter said that “any of them” were good. “I even like the last one, the action one that nobody else liked.”

Carpenter was asked a similar question about Dead Space almost 10 years ago and at the time he said: “I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I'll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made. You know it's great. The first game was more - I guess it was like Alien - but not quite. It was a little different than that. I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something's on board. It's just great stuff. I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I'll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made.”

If a Dead Space film ever actually gets made, I would actually love to see Carpenter take on the challenge of directing it! That seems like it would be a great film project for him to take on! What do you think?
