John Krasinski Announces Full Cast and Debuts Footage For His Imaginary Friend Ryan Reynolds Movie IF

During the Paramount Pictures presentation at CinemaCon, John Krasinski debuted the first footage of his upcoming fantasy family comedy film IF, and announced the full cast of A-list stars! When talking about the film, Krasinski said that he wanted to make a movie for kids to enjoy in the same way that he enjoyed watching E.T. and The Goonies when he was growing up.

Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, and Krasinksi were previously cast in the movie, and they will be joined Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina and Vince Vaughn.

Other actors that were previously announced include Krasinski, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Cailey Fleming, Louis Gossett Jr, Fiona Shaw, Alan S. Kim, and Bobby Moynihan.

The movie has a very Amblin-style vibe to it and it’s a mix of CGI animation and live-action. The story follows a young girl (Fleming) who is able to see and interact with all of the old imaginary friends of those around her. Imaginary friends that were dreamed up and created and then discarded.

One of the imaginary friends is IF, and IF is a furry purple creature that is voiced by Steve Carrell. There are many other imaginary friend characters and they are voiced by the other cast members that were announced.

A lot of the footage shown was behind-the-scenes stuff, and Krasinski pretty much stepped in and acted out all of the imaginary friend characters in person on the set, which I thought was fun! The story is about a child’s journey to rediscover their imagination. The movie looks like it will be a charming and heartfelt exploration of childhood, and I’m looking forward to watching it!

Reynolds described the movie as “a live-action pixar film,” and Krasinski, who wrote and directed it, said, “I want this movie to be believing in something bigger… and getting you through something bigger, that’s possible.”

I have a feeling this is going to be a great and entertaining movie that audiences will enjoy, and it hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
