John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits Confirmed to Reprise Roles in DEXTER: RESURRECTION

Two of Dexter Morgan’s most unforgettable adversaries are coming back for another round of blood.

John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits are reprising their iconic roles as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, and Miguel Prado in Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, which has been filming in New York since January.

Lithgow’s performance as Trinity in Season 4 earned him an Emmy, a Critics’ Choice Award, a SAG Award, and a Golden Globe nomination. Smits also scored an Emmy nomination for his chilling Season 3 turn as the revenge-driven ADA-turned-killer, Miguel.

Now they’re back, and if you're wondering how that works when both characters are, well, dead... Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But I assume they will return as manifistations in the same way Dexter saw his father. But, then it could also be flash backs.

Lithgow has already reappeared in Dexter: New Blood via flashbacks. Smits' return marks his first reentry into the franchise, though a younger version of Miguel did pop up in Original Sin, played by Nick Santucci.

The limited series, spearheaded by returning showrunner Clyde Phillips and starring Michael C. Hall once again as Dexter, is stacking its cast. Familiar faces include David Zayas as Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and James Remar as Harry Morgan.

New blood also includes Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.

One interesting returning character that flew under the radar is David Magidoff, who will once again play Teddy Reed from the Iron Lake Police Department.

There’s speculation that Lithgow’s return might lay groundwork for the potential Trinity prequel we first heard about back in December. If Resurrection can connect the dots like New Blood did for Original Sin, we could be seeing even more narrative cross-pollination in the future.

Behind the scenes, Phillips teams up with Dexter veteran Scott Reynolds as co-creator and executive producer. The series is already written and awaiting its summer premiere.
