John Mulaney's SPIDER-HAM Movie Pitch is a Comedic Version of THE POST or SPOTLIGHT
The producers of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse have all expressed their interest in developing a Spider-Ham spinoff film. It seems like one of those film projects that is bound to happen, and it seems like something the fans would welcome with open arms.
Comedian John Mulaney provides the voice of Peter Porker and in a recent interview with Variety he shares his ideas on what he’d like to see the movie explore. It’s not what I expected, but at the same time it totally would work.
You see, Peter Poker is a crime-fighting pig whose day job is as photographer for his hometown paper, the Daily Deagle. Mulaney wants to put a focus Porker’s day job and and build a comedic story around a serious crime. He explains:
“[Spider-Ham] is a fun guy who is capable of great rage. To go see him back at the Daily Deagle — I could see a Watergate-like story at the Beagle where he’s both a reporter and Spider-Ham by night.”
He then says he’d like to see the Spider-Ham film draw from other movies like The Post and Spotlight, saying he “never thought that the Clark Kents and the Peter Parkers leaned enough into the day job.” He then adds:
“This would be more like ‘The Post’ or ‘All The President’s Men’ or ‘Spotlight,’ but we’d make it family friendly. Lots of bacon jokes, or, ‘that’s hamfisted.'”
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I could actually see that working! I wonder if that’s an idea that Sony Pictures would be willing to entertain and try out.
What do you think of Mulaney’s Spider-Ham film concept?
