JOHN WICK Director Chad Stahelski Says a Best Stunt Oscar Category Is a "No-Brainer"
John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski started his career in the world of movie stunts in films like The Matrix, and he eventually made the shift into directing, making some of the most badass action movies ever! As you might imagine, the stunt profession is very important to the filmmaker, and like the rest of us movie fans, he would like to see a Best Stunt category added to the Oscars!
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker talked about the stunt category calling it a no-brainer, and explained:
"There's one for every other department but ours? That's a no-brainer to me. Truly, there are wives' tales and rumors and myths about why there's no category, that the Academy was mad at somebody about something. For all I know, that's all bullsh*t. We want to be recognized because we're one of the 11 main departments. We're in every f**king trailer. Most movies are sold on what we do."
The film stunt profession totally needs to be recognized, and it’s absolutely ridiculous that it’s not! Everyone else in the industry is recognized for their work, but not the people that put their lives on the line to get the awesome action-packed stunts!
It would be great if they did, but let’s be honest, Tom Cruise might win every year.
While we’re on the topic of stunts, John Wick: Chapter 4, features some of the best and most impressive fight sequences and stunts that you’ll ever see!
When previously talking about the action in the upcoming movie, Reeves said: “John Wick: Chapter 4 has the most action of any of the [John Wick] films, which is saying a lot. And it’s more by a good margin. It’s a big show… John Wick: Chapter 4 was the hardest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far. They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox.”
