Johnny Depp Confirmed Not to Return as Jack Sparrow in Disney's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Reboot
When it was announced that Disney was going to be rebooting the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, most fans assumed that Johnny Depp would not be back in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Well, now it’s been confirmed that the movie will, in fact, be Depp free.
The news comes from Disney Chief of Film Production Sean Bailey, who, when asked if the franchise could survive without Depp, said:
"We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with."
So, they are proceeding without Depp, and I’m totally fine with that. I was really getting tired of seeing Depp in this role. I’m not a fan of this franchise in general, but with Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick writing the script, they might be able to actually breathe some life into the franchise. They’re the only reason I’m interested in this project.
It was previously rumored that Jack Sparrow will be replaced by a female pirate named Redd. This female pirate is actually the latest addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disney theme parks. Redd can be seen in the auction scene of the ride.
It’s hard to not be a little curious about the direction that Disney is looking to take this franchise. It can’t be any worse that what we’ve already seen from the franchise.
