Johnny Depp is Back in His Element as Scrooge in Fun New EBENEZER Trailer

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has been dragged through just about every corner of Hollywood, but Ebenezer Scrooge still has some fight left in him.

A new trailer has arrived for Ebenezer, with Johnny Depp stepping into the role of the legendary Christmas grouch, and this latest look puts his take on Scrooge right where it belongs: front and center.

The Dickens story has been adapted more times than most of us could count, with versions spanning decades, including Alastair Sim’s 1951 Scrooge, Jim Carrey’s 2009 animated film, and the beloved The Muppet Christmas Carol. Yet filmmakers keep coming back to Scrooge, Marley, the Christmas ghosts, and that miserable old man’s supernatural road to redemption.

This time, Depp is leading an impressive cast that includes Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, Ian McKellen, and more.

The first trailer leaned into the creepy side of the story, giving its Christmas ghosts a sinister edge before eventually making its way toward the warmth and holiday spirit audiences know is coming.

Depp has also been having some fun promoting the movie. He previously appeared at San Diego Comic-Con dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, bringing the character directly to fans ahead of the film’s November 13 theatrical release.

The new trailer offers an even better look at what Depp is bringing to Scrooge, and he seems to be having a hell of a good time with the character, and it looks like he gives a very fun performance!

Scrooge fits comfortably into the kind of eccentric roles Depp has built much of his career around, but the movie isn’t relying entirely on him. Ridley also makes a strong impression in the footage, and the supporting cast gives this adaptation some power.

Ebenezer looks entertaining enough to justify taking another trip through the story. The supernatural imagery, the cast, and Depp’s performance could help this version find an audience even among viewers who think Dickens’ Christmas classic has already spent enough time on the big screen.

The November 13 release date also gets Ebenezer into theaters before Thanksgiving and the full Christmas movie rush, giving audiences an early dose of ghosts, misery, redemption, and holiday cheer.
