Jon Bernthal Says DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Will Make Fans "Enormously Happy"
Jon Bernthal has returned to the role of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Marvel’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, and during a recent interview, he talks about the show and believes that it’s going to make fans very happy.
When previously talking about the series, Marvel head Kevin Feige said: "In Daredevil: Born Again, we've channeled the essence of the original series but set an entirely new path for Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk.”
The new Disney+ series also brings back Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), and Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), and is described as more of a revival rather than a reboot of the Netflix version of Daredevil.
Bernthal talked about the series with Marvel Entertainment following Marvel Studios' D23 presentation:
"I think if you're a fan of the show that you saw before, you're gonna be a fan of this. I think we're just taking it a step further. We're all here, we're all enormously happy to be with each other, we're proud of what we did. If you're a fan of [Marvel's Daredevil], you're gonna be enormously happy."
After seeing the footage that was released at D23, fans seem pretty pumped up about the show and the direction that the creative team is looking to take it.
Marvel's Head of Television, Streaming, and Animated producer Brad Winderbaum, previously talked about the series saying it will feature a whole new "political" angle to Daredevil and Kingpin's arch-rivalry.
Winderbaum compared the show to X-Men ‘97: "Daredevil is incredible. It's similar in some ways to X-Men '97 because it's reviving something that the fans love. But it's taking it in a new direction.”
He went on to tease how things have changed, saying: "These characters have matured, the universe is different than it was. Things have changed, society's changed. Matt and Wilson have changed.
“And their characters are gonna collide in ways we've never seen before. It's no longer enough to try to murder each other. There's a whole game of politics at play."
The new series is reportedly inspired by the Devil's Reign storyline, which explores the power dynamics between Kingpin and the vigilantes who stand up against him. The story revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who becomes the Mayor of New York City.
Daredevil: Born Again is developed by directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on both Moon Knight and Loki.
