Jon Favreau Adresses What Comes After THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU Movie
Will The Mandalorian return for a fourth season after The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters? That’s the big question Star Wars fans are wondering, and Jon Favreau finally addressed it, but he not really ready to reveal anything.
Favreau, the creator of the hit Star Wars series, barely opened up about the future of Din Djarin and Grogu during a recent chat with Collider at Star Wars Celebration in Japan. While many were hoping for a clear answer on the show's future, Favreau kept the spotlight squarely on the movie.
“Right now, I’m focusing on the feature because we still have another year of the story,” Favreau said. “You discover so much as you edit a film and put it together with visual effects. Right now we’re really locked in on the big screen story that’s coming.”
So, the possibility of Season 4 is up in the air, but we know for sure that this won’t be the last we see of the two characters and they will be a part of Dave Filoni’s big Star Wars movie.
While there were reports back in early 2024 that a fourth season was in development, it now looks like Lucasfilm is going all in on the theatrical side of things. Whether The Mandalorian will return to the small screen after the movie remains a mystery, and Favreau isn’t making any promises.
Since its debut in 2019, The Mandalorian has been the driving force behind this new era of Star Wars storytelling on Disney+. The show helped launch The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew.
But now, the story of Din and Grogu is shifting to the big screen, with The Mandalorian & Grogu set to premiere in theaters on May 22, 2026.
That movie will push the story arc forward and most likely open new doors to explore. We’ll just have to wait and see if the story arc will continue as a series or roll straight into Filoni’s movie.
