Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU Movie Could Be The Start of a Trilogy

Earlier this week we learned that Jon Favreau was directing a Star Wars movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. This is pretty exciting news and I assume it would be in addition to The Mandalorian Season 4, but that may not be the case.

According to a report from Making Star Wars, this movie is most likely a retooling of The Mandalorian Season 4. This is a rumor that started spreading a few months ago, so now it seems like there might actually be some truth to it.

It’s also reported that The Mandalorian & Grogu might be the start of a trilogy that will also include Dave Filoni's untitled movie that will bring this whole New Republic saga together.

The report says: "I’m going to add a caveat, which is just my sense on it, is that it’s a trilogy if the first one connects. If the first one [The Mandalorian and Grogu] is a big film, they’ll make two more. If the first one doesn’t and makes Indiana Jones [and the Dial of Destiny] money, then they’ll just do the two [already announced] and wash their hands of it."

Favreau previously shared a statement with the film’s announcement, syaing: “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

We don’t have any other details to share, but I am excited that we will get to see the adventures of the Mandalorian and Grogu continue to play out on the big screen!

It’s believed The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026. But, that date has not been confirmed.
