Jon Favreau Says AHSOKA is the “Centerpiece” of Dave Filoni’s “Work as a Storyteller” and a Key Part of STAR WARS Continuity
Fans are going to be waiting a while for Ahsoka Season 2, but the good news is that it sounds like Dave Filoni is crafting something much bigger than just another chapter in the series.
The first season left audiences hanging as Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren ended up stranded on Peridea while Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger finally made their return home to the main galaxy.
There are still a ton of questions floating around about the World Between Worlds, Thrawn’s larger plans, and where all of this is heading in the future of Star Wars.
Now Jon Favreau is shedding a little more light on how important Ahsoka really is to Filoni’s overall vision for the franchise.
While speaking in London about The Mandalorian and Grogu, Favreau explained that Filoni’s connection to Ahsoka runs much deeper than fans may even realize. He said:
“It's a culmination for him [Dave Filoni] of not just what he's done in live television, starting with the episodes that he directed of The Mandalorian, especially introducing Ahsoka in live-action, but this is a character that he created with George, and this has been the centerpiece of his work as a storyteller.”
Ahsoka started in The Clone Wars, evolved through Rebels, and has slowly become one of the most important and popular characters in the modern Star Wars timeline.
She’s connected to Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Order, the rise of the Empire, the rebellion against it, and now whatever strange cosmic path the World Between Worlds is opening up.
Favreau went on to explain that Filoni is taking the long view with where the character fits into the mythology:
“And as he transitions to running Lucasfilm, I think he's putting a lot of effort into honoring and giving a sense of continuity, and, to some extent, completion to that arc, and he has tremendous care with it.
“And he also understands the high level implications of what's going on throughout the galaxy, and in the World Between Worlds, and with all the characters that have been established in canon within live-action Star Wars, but also extended universe and novels.
“And he pulls the best from everywhere, and he weaves it all together very well, and much like he did that with what happened with the prequels and what happened with Clone Wars and with Rebels, all of it ties together and threads,” Favreau adds. “He's giving a lot of thought to how Ahsoka fits into the overall, overarching continuity.”
Filoni has always had a reputation for pulling ideas from every corner of Star Wars lore, whether it’s animated series, old EU concepts, novels, or forgotten mythology threads that hardcore fans remember from decades ago.
Hearing Favreau talk about how carefully Filoni is connecting everything together makes Ahsoka Season 2 sound like a major piece of the larger puzzle Lucasfilm is building.
It also makes sense considering how many moving parts are now connected through these Disney+ stories. The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and Filoni’s eventual crossover film all seem to be heading toward one massive event centered around Thrawn.
Even though Ahsoka Season 2 likely won’t arrive until 2027, it sounds like Filoni is making sure the wait pays off.
In the meantime, fans will get to return to this corner of the galaxy with The Mandalorian and Grogu when it hits theaters on May 22.
