Jordan Peele's Remake of Wes Craven's THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS Moves Forward with the Writer of DOOM PATROL
Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions are set to produce a remake of Wes Craven’s crazy 1991 horror movie The People Under The Stairs. Doom Patrol and Night Sky screenwriter Ezra Claytan Daniels has signed on to write the screenplay for the movie, which is set up at Universal Pictures.
I remember seeing the original film when I was a kid, and I loved it! It was such a strange, unique, and insane movie! It’s also a movie that I’ve come to appreciate more over time because of its social commentary.
The movie follows the story of a young boy named Fool, played by Brandon Quintin Adams, who, along with two others, attempts to burglarize the home of the mysterious and affluent Robesons. As they navigate the labyrinthine house, they discover the dark secrets hidden within its walls, including the gruesome treatment of children who have been imprisoned under the stairs. As Fool attempts to escape before the psychopaths who reside in the house can catch him, he meets their daughter, Alice, who has been spared any extreme discipline by her deranged parents. Fool and Alice attempt to escape.
If you’ve seen the movie, it’s not hard to understand why this movie would appeal to Peele. It’s right in his wheelhouse of horror.
