Josh Brolin Comments on DC's LANTERNS Series and Kyle Chandler Being Cast as Hal Jordan
Josh Brolin recently commented on being offered the role of Hal Jordan in the DC Studios’ HBO series Lanterns, which is based on DC Comics‘ Green Lantern.
As you know, he passed on the role, and not long after we learned that Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) was in talks to join the series.
During a recent interview, Brolin acknowledged that things “didn’t work out” and he also commented on the Chandler casting news.
The actor told CB: “You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay. It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.”
Brolin doesn’t offer any insight into why he passed on the role, but I think Chandler is a great choice for Hal Jordan. I’m excited about that casting and I think he’ll do a great job if they manage to work out of deal.
The series will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Lanterns version of Hal Jordan was also described as a grizzled, veteran Green Lantern, and the series is said to be taking its cues from the likes of HBO's True Detective.
The project is being developed by Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King.
When talking about the eight-episode series, DC Studios co-Chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, said: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”
