Josh Brolin’s Comments Hint Thanos Might Be Returning to the MCU in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY or SECRET WARS

Marvel fans could be seeing the Mad Titan make his grand comeback sooner than expected. After years of speculation, Josh Brolin’s latest comments have reignited talk that Thanos might return in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Brolin brought Thanos to life in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, serving as the ultimate villain who pushed Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to their breaking point.

While Thanos met his end in Endgame, the multiverse keeps doors open that once seemed closed. Brolin has already revisited the character in What If…?, proving that the villain still looms large in the MCU.

When speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Brolin offered an intriguing response when asked about possibly returning as Thanos.

“If Joe Russo comes to me —which he may have. I don’t know. And has an idea, then I might acquiesce,” Brolin said. “Probably pretty quickly.”

There’s no official confirmation yet, but with Joe and Anthony Russo back at the helm for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s easy to see why speculation is running wild.

While the films will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, the comics famously pit Doom against Thanos during Secret Wars. If Marvel Studios plans to bring that showdown to life, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Brolin stepping back into the armor.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars arriving on December 17, 2027. Before those massive team-ups, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.

As for Brolin, he’s staying plenty busy outside the MCU. He’s leading Edgar Wright’s upcoming remake of The Running Man, hitting U.S. theaters this weekend, and he’ll reprise his role as Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, which lands in December 2026.

Whether or not Thanos returns, Brolin’s comments are enough to keep fans theorizing until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters.
