Jude Law is Teaming With BLACK RABBIT Writer Zach Baylin for a New Getaway Driver Action Movie

Jude Law looks like he's getting back behind the wheel for another adrenaline-fueled ride. During a keynote conversation at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Ben Jackson and Katie Sinclair of Riff Raff Entertainment pulled back the curtain on several projects currently in development, including a new action feature that sounds like a lean, fast-paced thriller built around a getaway driver.

Even better, the screenplay is being written by Zach Baylin, who previously collaborated with Law and the company on Black Rabbit and The Order.

Jackson shared that Riff Raff is currently developing two projects with Baylin. One is a television series that's still under wraps, while the other is the action film that Law himself helped come up with.

“One is a TV show that we’re doing. I can’t really tell you about that, but it’ll be good. And then we’ve got a film that was an idea that Jude and I had, which is basically a very simple idea about a getaway driver who wants to get from A to B to C, and there are a lot of things in his way.”

Sometimes all an action movie needs is a simple premise, a compelling lead, and plenty of obstacles standing between point A and point B.

According to Jackson, the project actually grew out of Law's experience making The Order. The actor apparently had such a great time filming that movie's driving sequences that it sparked the idea for an entirely new film centered around high-speed action.

Jackson explained: “We had a lot of car chases in that, and he had a lot of fun doing it, so when he came out of that, we brainstormed an idea, and Zach’s now written a pretty great script.”

The keynote also offered an interesting look at how Riff Raff Entertainment has grown since Jackson launched the company alongside Law in 2017. According to Jackson and Sinclair, the boutique production company now has around 50 projects in various stages of development.

Sinclair broke down the slate, saying roughly 30 of those projects are ready to be pitched to financiers, saying, “About 15 films and 15 TV fully fledged projects.”

The company currently employs seven full-time staff members, and Jackson made it clear that Riff Raff has a specific vision for the kinds of films it wants to produce, saying: “It’s not about making a film that just goes straight to streaming. That is key for us.”

That theatrical-first mindset also extends to the company's approach to television. Sinclair explained that Riff Raff is aiming for premium series rather than traditional broadcast programming.

“No disrespect to it, but I think whether in the UK and U.S. buyers see us and see a project from us, they’ll expect it to have an element of elevation to it and be in that kind of high-end space,” she said.

Sinclair also revealed another project currently on the company's slate, a feature from filmmaker Laura Carreira, following her acclaimed debut, On Falling. The film will be a UK-Portuguese co-production, with authenticity playing a major role in its development.

She explained: “That’s an exciting one because it’s a UK-Portuguese co-production. So we’re partnering with a local production services company in Portugal, but also the story is set in Portugal.

“We obviously want it to be authentic, so we’d want that producer to be involved creatively, as well as just providing physical services. So we’re open to European co-productions, and actively encourage them.”

While details on the getaway driver movie are still scarce, it's easy to picture why Law would be excited to jump into another action-heavy role after The Order. Pairing that concept with a script from Zach Baylin could make for an entertaining, tightly wound chase thriller.

For now, it sounds like the project is still in development, but it's definitely one worth watching as Riff Raff Entertainment continues building an impressive lineup of film and television projects.
