JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH Sequel Reportedly in the Works with Gareth Edwards and Cast Set to Return
It looks like we’ll be getting some more dino action! After Jurassic World Rebirth dominated the box office earlier this year with nearly $900 million worldwide, it looks like Universal isn’t wasting any time keeping the prehistoric action alive.
A sequel to Rebirth is reportedly in development, with Gareth Edwards returning to direct and stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali expected to reprise their roles.
The scoop first came from The InSneider, but the studio hasn’t commented yet. Still, given how massive Rebirth was, this news feels more like an inevitability than a surprise.
I enjoyed Jurassic Park Rebirth, and the film was a major success both domestically and internationally, proving that audiences still have an appetite for dinosaurs on the big screen.
While it didn’t quite reach the billion-dollar mark of Jurassic World Dominion, it was still one of the year’s biggest hits and a strong return to form for the franchise.
Edwards, who came aboard late in the production process, managed to turn what could’ve been a messy reboot into something fresh and thrilling. Now, with the sequel, he'‘ll get the chance to shape his own sequel from the ground up.
There’s no word on who’s writing or when it might hit theaters, but the ending of Rebirth left plenty of story threads to explore. The film wrapped with the heroes unleashing a powerful new medical breakthrough that changed the world, earning the wrath of the shady company that created it. And while their mission may have ended, the door to more dino-fueled chaos swung wide open.
Steven Spielberg is also returning once again as executive producer. It’s a busy time for the legendary filmmaker, who also confirmed his involvement in producing a third Gremlins movie earlier today. It seems Spielberg is determined to keep monsters, big or small, alive on screen for as long as audiences keep showing up.
With Edwards at the helm, a strong cast, and a world where dinosaurs walk the Earth, the Jurassic World saga is far from extinction.
So what do you think? Are you excited to see where Edwards takes the next Rebirth adventure? What kind of prehistoric chaos are you hoping to see unleashed next?
