Karen Gillan Teases Nebula's Story in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
We are less than two months from the conclusion of Marvel’s Guardians franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, from director James Gunn. The story of the ragtag group of space heroes has changed so much since they came together in the first film nine years ago, as we have seen their adventure weave through the MCU.
Actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the films, has had one of the most life-changing experiences throughout the Infinity saga, as the villainous Thanos, who was miraculously defeated, was her own father and the source of her greatest pain. She is now a full-fledged member of the Guardians going into the third film, and during an appearance at SXSW, while promoting her upcoming film Late Bloomers, she spoke to Deadline about Nebula’s storyline:
“Now we’re seeing Nebula post the death of the source of her trauma, Thanos. He’s been eliminated from the story, and now we’re seeing her character become a little bit of the person that she should have been had that not happened to her.”
Cranky and combative Nebula’s idea of bliss now is “her new family with the new Guardians and letting love in for the first time, rather than the defense mechanism always triggering. Allowing her to be loved and to love.”
In the third movie from filmmaker James Gunn, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill is still reeling from the loss of Zoe Saldana’s Gamora. He must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Gunn has previously said that this story will focus in part on Rocket Raccoon’s origin, and will show a redemptive arc for the character. Gunn has promised a tearjerker, and that is evident from the first full trailer we were shown.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 blasts off into theaters on May 5th.
