Karl Urban Teases “Fatalities Right From The Get-Go” in THE BOYS Season 5

The end is almost here for The Boys, and if you were hoping the show might ease into its final season… think again. According to Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, Season 5 is coming in hot with immediate chaos, shocking deaths, and the kind of carnage fans have come to expect from Prime Video’s most unhinged superhero series.

Season 5 premieres April 8 and serves as the final chapter of the hit show. Urban has already hinted at “some big hits early on,” but now he’s spelling it out in a way that should make fans both excited and nervous.

Speaking with Variety, Urban didn’t sugarcoat what’s coming:

“Every season, but particularly this season, from episode one, you’re like, oh wow. Nobody is safe. Fatalities right from the get-go. Let’s go! Last season! It’s all on!”

I can’t help but think that the mention of “fatalities” is probably a wink toward his upcoming role as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat II, you’re not alone.

The official synopsis for the final season paints a bleak picture: "It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’

“Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it."

At this point, things are about as dire as they’ve ever been. In the Season 4 finale, Homelander, played with terrifying intensity by Antony Starr, edged closer to the Oval Office while rounding up anti-Supe protestors and throwing them into prison camps.

Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milk were captured. Starlight and an increasingly unstable Butcher remained free. Not exactly a hopeful setup.

Of course, longtime readers of the original comic know things can get even darker. In the source material, nearly every major character aside from Hughie and Starlight ends up dead. Butcher eventually goes full villain and turns on his own team.

The Prime Video adaptation has always carved its own path, so it’s hard to imagine showrunner Eric Kripke going quite that far. Still, nobody should feel comfortable.

Kripke himself recently said: “There will probably be lots of deaths. There’s no guarantee of who’s gonna survive.”

Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Noir, added this little tease: “There are some things that are coming in Season 5 that you’re not going to have in your bingo card.”

Season 4 already pushed Butcher into darker territory, and it feels inevitable that both he and Homelander are heading toward some kind of final reckoning. If they do go down, redemption could factor into Butcher’s end. Or maybe this show decides to twist the knife one last time.

Season 5 of The Boys obviously isn’t interested in playing it safe. Urban says nobody is safe, Kripke says survival isn’t guaranteed, and the story is set in a world completely controlled by a power-hungry Homelander. That’s a recipe for chaos.
