Katey Sagal Comments on Playing Dr. Kureha in Live-Action ONE PIECE Series

It was recently announced that Katey Sagal (Married With Children, Sons of Anarchy) was cast in the role of Dr. Kureha in Netflix’s live-action One Piece series.

Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to play this character and the producers of the series tried to make it happen, but the actress’s schedule wouldn’t allow for her to join the Season 2 production.

Regardless, I think Sagal is an awesome choice for the role! I think she’s an even better choice than Curtis and I’m excited to see how she brings this character to life.

Sagal recently commented on being cast in One Piece, saying: "I am thrilled to be a part of this show! And finally being able to speak about it. Been sitting on this for months, as it was a secret.

“Thank you to all the One Piece fans, your enthusiasm and support have been overwhelming. On my way to Cape Town! I won't let you down!"

Kureha is an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates and she is a doctor on Drum Island where she is the head of the Isshi-100. Hiriluk is a thief-turned-Drum Island doctor.

Sagal joins previously announced new cast members Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy, Callum Kerr as Smoker, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Clive Russell as Crocus, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, Ty Keogh as Dalton, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, and Werner Coetser as Dorry.

Returning are stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger.

In the series, “Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, to become King of the Pirates!

“But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.”

One Piece Season 2 is about two months into production in Cape Town, South Africa.
