Kathleen Kennedy Says Lando Calrissian Will Get His Own STAR WARS Film
Solo: A Star Wars Story is getting a lot of positive buzz at the moment from people that have seen it. I'm not the only one out there that gave it a great review! There is one thing that I think every Star Wars fan will find common ground on with this film when they see it, and that is everyone will love Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. He's just such a great character and the actor plays him so well.
I've already been saying how much I would like to see Lando get his own film, and now it actually sounds like that is exactly what Lucasfilm is planning! During an interview with Premiere France, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said that the next spin-off film will focus on Lando:
"We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next."
That's great news! As excited as I am for more films about the adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca, Lando is one of those intriguing characters, whose past I would love to learn more about. So if Lucasfilm wants to give me a solo Lando movie, I'll watch it!
As for the comment of the Lando film being "next", based on the context, it sounds like it will be developed before the sequel to Solo, not "next" in the sense that it will be the next Star Wars film to go into production.
There have been a lot of rumors lately that the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is getting very close to starting production. On top of that, we have Star Wars: Episode IX shooting soon. Then Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones team are developing new film trilogies of their own.
Lucasfilm has a lot of stuff in the pipeline, I'm sure there are some projects we don't even know about yet. But one thing is for sure, Lando is A Star Wars Story film that is worth getting excited about!
UPDATE: According to io9, Premiere has updated their article to say: “Following the publication of our article, Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy. 'We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie ...'"
