Keanu Reeves Explains How The Beatles Helped Make BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter recently sat down for a virtual interview to talk about their highly anticipated film Bill & Ted Face The Music. During that interview, they were asked what they thought when they heard the song that saves the world.
Reeves explained that while they were shooting the film, they didn’t have that song yet, so it was never played on the set. But, there was a stand-in song that was used for the actors to play against and that song was The Beatles’ “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”. So, The Beatles helped in the making of the film! Reeves explained:
“Dean Parisot comes from a musical background, and I knew that we were in good hands with that. I guess I could speak about this, but we didn’t have the song when we were filming, so Dean played “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles because for Dean, it was like, ‘I know 113 beats per minute would be good, and ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’ has a hundred and it’s a feel-good song.’ For nights, we would just be listening and rock out to “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” It’s amazing how you can listen to that song a whole bunch and not get tired of it.”
That’s pretty cool! It will be interesting to hear the song that does save the world, though. It’s gotta be a good one! Winter went on to discuss the film and what it is that makes it family-friendly, saying:
“We’re not stoners; we’re not surfers. We really are very childlike, Bill and Ted. That seems to be, I think, why little kids still like the movies. When people come up to me on the street these days, a lot of times it’s with really little kids, and I love that. I think that’s great. It’s not like that was intentional, but I think that Keanu and I both always saw these kids as these characters, as having kind of a childlike view of the world or an innocent view, but not in a caricature-ish way, ideally.”
Winter and Reeves reprise their roles as Bill Preston and Ted Logan in the film, which is being directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) from a script written by original franchise screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. Here’s the synopsis:
Following 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the stakes are higher than ever for William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves). Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.
When previously talking about the story the film will tell, Matheson said:
“They were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they’ve been working on it the whole time. Now an emissary from the future comes and says, ‘You’ve got to do it right now. We’ve got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.’”
I love that! The movie also stars Amy Stoch and Hal Landon Jr. as Missy and Ted’s dad; Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as the daughters of Bill and Ted; Beck Bennett as Ted’s younger brother, Deacon; Jayma Mays and Erinn Hayes as the wives of Bill and Ted; Kid Cudi, and Anthony Carrigan as the villain.
The movie will be released on August 28th via On Demand and in select theaters.
