Keanu Reeves Says His Worst On-Set Injury Came From His GOOD FURTUNE Comedy - “The Pain Was Banana Cakes”
You’d think after The Matrix and John Wick, Keanu Reeves would have endured every kind of cinematic injury imaginable. But according to the actor, the worst pain he’s ever felt on a movie set didn’t come from a hardcore action film, it came from filming his new comedy Good Fortune, where he plays an angel.
During an appearance on the New Heights Podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Reeves confirmed that his biggest on-set injury happened while shooting Good Fortune. He revealed:
“My kneecap, I had a vertical break. The pain was banana cakes.”
So how did the ever-graceful action star manage to split his kneecap? Turns out, it wasn’t during a wild stunt or fight sequence, it was a rug-related accident.
“I was shooting a scene and then I was going back to the dressing room, they had a carpet laid down. Then there was a little section, and I caught my foot. Then I started to fall and I spiked my left knee like bang! And spiked it.”
Even with a broken kneecap, Reeves didn’t take a break from filming. “I was immobilized,” he said. “I wore a brace for basically ten weeks, but I filmed while I had that.”
In Good Fortune, Reeves stars as Gabriel, a well-meaning but clumsy angel who tries to help a struggling gig worker named Arj, played by Aziz Ansari, and a wealthy venture capitalist named Jeff, played by Seth Rogen.
When Gabriel decides to swap their bodies to teach them that money doesn’t buy happiness, things spiral out of control, costing him his wings and forcing him to confront his own mistakes.
Written and directed by Ansari, the film also features Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh, rounding out a stellar comedic cast.
Reeves may have taken some serious hits over the years, but tripping over a carpet as a celestial being might just be his most unexpected injury yet.
