Keanu Reeves Teases John Wick's Involvement in the Spinoff Movie BALLERINA
The John Wick Universe is expanding, and one of the first spinoff projects that we’ll see is the film Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas. Keanu Reeves will appear in the movie, and in a recent interview with Total Film, the actor teases his role in the movie and makes it clear that the crossover is far from forced. Reeves said:
"It's a cool story. Len Wiseman has a vision, but is also embracing, affectionately, the world of John Wick. Ian McShane is in it as Winston.”
The actor went on to confirm Wick only make a cameo in the movie and says he just "briefly" worked with de Armas. He continued:
"So I felt that there was a cool handoff of stewardship, and it was fun to put the suit on again, however briefly. There's a reason for [John] to be in Ballerina; it's very organic. And working with Ana was great. She really loves action, and she's really good at it."
Ana de Armas previously talked about working with Reeves in an action scene for the film saying:
"We've been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I'm in pain. My body, my back, everything hurts. I'm complaining, I'm sore, I'm bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes, this is a whole movie, another level.
"But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing these crazy stunts, and I'm like, I can't complain anymore, I'm done. Because he is doing it!"
As far as the future of the franchise goes, Reeves says John Wick 5 will happen if enough moviegoers check out John Wick: Chapter 4 in March.
"You have to see how the audience responds to what we did. The only reason we've had a chance to make these movies is that people have liked what we have done. So I think we have to wait and see how the audience responds to it. Hopefully they'll like it."
The story follows a young female assassin, who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family — as Wick has against those who have done him wrong. The movie also stars Angelica Houston as The Director, Lance Reddick as Charon, and Norman Reedus in a mysterious role.
Ballerina takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, which is due for release on March 24, 2023.
