Kevin Feige Debunks Reports That Chris Evans Is Returning as Captain America in the MCU

A couple of months ago, a report from Deadline claimed that Chris Evans was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America in the MCU. Marvel fans went crazy over the news, and now today, we finally have an update on that report from Marvel Studios head Kevin Fiege, who shot down the rumor. While talking to EW he said:

"I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself.”

Not long after the rumor started spreading like wildfire on the Internet, Evan took to social media simply saying, “News to me.” But that wouldn’t be the first time the actor has played coy. Feige’s comment seems to officially put the rumor to rest.

Anthony Mackie shared his experience when he heard about the rumor, saying:

"I was actually fishing [when the report came out]. When I came back in to get some shrimp, the dude at the dock was like, 'Hey, man! Did you see this s---?!' I've been going to the same guy to get my bait for like 20 years and all of a sudden now he's a fan. He had no idea who I was. Now he's a fan.

"Marvel's so secretive, and it's so ridiculous about what we know and what we don't know. I have no idea. The dude at the dock selling me shrimp knows more about what's going on with Marvel than I do."

When Sebastian Stan was asked about Evans returning, he said:

"Anything is possible, right? I saw he tweeted something about it. So, I don't know. I feel like usually he knows what to say in those things, so I didn't know what to make of it. And I truly don't have any intel on that. I feel like you can't ever think of the words 'Captain America' without thinking about Chris Evans. He's done such an amazing job with it, and I feel like he's always going to have this presence. And he has a presence in our show."

So, I guess we shouldn’t expect Evans to show up as Captain America again in the MCU. But who knows, Feige could also be lying. It’s not like if Evens was coming back that he’d just come out and confirm it.

In my opinion, Marvel did a fantastic job with Captain America’s story arc, and I thought they gave his character a wonderful ending. So, I’m ok if I never see Evans back as Captain America.
